Introducing DOMS™️ — a new way to design learning experiences
The way we design learning experiences is broken.
Why? Without a Master’s in Education or the time, money and skill required to translate complex Learning Science research into concrete design practices, learning designers struggle to make robust design decisions about course flow, modes, content, activity, interactions & assessment.
As a direct result of shortcomings with the learning design process, the vast majority of learning experiences are not informed by learning science and therefore not optimised for learner engagement and impact.
Introducing the DOMS™️ Learning Design Framework
A new, four-step learning design process with learning science baked-in, based on 20+ years of research into how humans learn
A learning design framework with provides the what (a robust 4-step design process) and the how (a set of easy-to-apply design principles & frameworks to inform every design decision)
A deep-dive on the critical Analysis & Design stages of models like ADDIE & SAM
Using DOMS™️ is like becoming a Master of Education without having to do an M.Ed. It enables learning designers to make robust design decisions quickly and 10X their impact on student engagement and outcomes.
Discovery: how to apply the science of learner profiling + product development principles to optimise your design for “course market fit”, learner engagement & motivation.
Outcomes: how to apply the science of outcome-writing to optimise your design for leaner engagement, motivation & achievement.
Mapping: how to apply the science of sequencing to optimise your design for engagement, motivation & achievement.
Storyboarding: how to apply the science of learning to select & design content, activities, assessments & feedback which optimise learner engagement, motivation & achievement.

I’ll share more about how to apply DOMS™ ️to your learning design process over the coming weeks.
In the meantime, if you want to learn more about DOMS™️ and have a go at applying it to your learning design process: I’m running a 3–week, cohort-based Learning Science bootcamp where we’ll get hands on and test the process as a team.
You can learn more about the bootcamp and join the waitlist here.
Happy designing 👋
