AI-Powered Analysis
How I'm working with AI to design an upcoming masterclass on AI + Training Design
On February 13th, I’ll be leading a free, online AI & Training Design Masterclass with my colleagues over at A New Spring. Our goal is to create a space to enable learning professionals from around the world to explore what AI means for how we design, deliver and evaluate workplace training.
In preparation, I’ve been working closely with AI (of course!) to run some learner analysis, with some interesting results. Here’s what I’ve learned so far from just the most basic of learner sign-up data + GPT4.
Breadth & Depth of Interest
So far we have a whopping 700+ sign ups from around the world. Those interested come from a range of business types of varied sizes, ranging from large education institutions to small family businesses.
In terms of roles, the broad breakdown of sign-ups goes as follows:
Instructional Designers: ~30%
Management & Leadership: ~30%
Training & Development Professionals: Z20%
Content & Media Production: S15%
Research & Academia: ~5%
Patterns of Pain
From the sign-ups so far, there are a number of interesting patterns of pain across different roles:
Instructional Designers:
Struggle to integrate AI into curriculum design effectively.
Struggle to balance the restrictions of technology with pedagogical best practices.
Ensuring content relevance and engagement in AI-enhanced courses.
Management & Leadership:
Challenges in writing & executing AI strategies within organisations.
Lack of clarity on how to ensure and measure ROI on AI investments
Managing change and staff training for AI adoption.
Training & Development Professionals:
Challenges in finding the right AI tools and methods to enhance training delivery and effectiveness.
Difficulty in measuring and evaluating training outcomes.
Content & Media Production:
Challenges in in finding the right AI tools to create content.
Difficulty in working with AI to create engaging and interactive content
Keeping up with the fast-paced advancements in AI and media technologies.
Research & Academia:
Bridging the gap between theoretical AI research and practical application in educational settings.
Staying abreast of the latest AI trends and their implications for education.
Understanding the ethical implications of AI, and the related debate.
Biggest Questions
AI and I have also noticed some interesting patterns in the big questions on the minds of our target learners:
Instructional Designers: How can AI be leveraged to create more effective, higher-impact learning experiences?
Management & Leadership: How can AI be strategically implemented to improve overall training outcomes?
Training & Development Professionals: How can AI tools be used to streamline and enhance the training delivery process? What AI methodologies are effective in evaluating and improving the learning experience?
Content & Media Production: In what ways can AI assist in producing more engaging and effective educational media? How can AI be used to analyze and improve content engagement?
Research & Academia: What are the latest AI research findings relevant to education and training? How can academic research be effectively translated into practical AI applications in learning and development?
